Today we set off to reach the Church of Saint John Lateran..
This link has more info..
On the way we came across the beautiful Basilica of Saint Praxedes
We were very impressed by the beautiful mosaics in this church..
Eventually we reached the enormous Cathedral Church of Saint John Lateran
An enormous interior, with a fair bit of activity happening.. a huge open space with tourists wandering.. confession boxes in use along the sides.. exposition in a side chapel.. cameras flashing occasionally.
Sort of overwhelming was the experience we both shared afterwards..
We also visited the baptistry next door: (all free this time!!)
I am becoming quite annoyed that one is expected to pay to visit a Church!!
" Hey, who's house is this?? Don't tell me to go outside!!" -
Today started off cool, but warmed up and on the walk home, the map reader became disoriented!! - ended up hot and not a bit bothered(!)at the Roman ruins, between the Colleseum and the Victor Emmanuel monument
We had sussed out that the 175 bus ran past the apartment, so we found a bus stop and got the bus.. could not buy a ticket so hop-on - hop off worked OK! Bought some food at the supermarket and had a good meal of chicken and veges topped pff with banana and icecrean youghurt for tea.. none of this crap italian pizza / pasta stuff!!
They have NO idea how to make a decent pizza!!!
We pass people eating at cafe tables outdoors on the streets.. no way Jose!!
